Fitting USB-SD Adaptor to Volvo V70 HU803 Stereo

The box emulates a CD changer to allow music on a USB drive or SD card to be accessed from the car stereo as if it were CDs in the changer.

Removing the Head Unit

First remove the pen clip by gently prising it out. It is not screwed in, just clipped, so gently(!) levering it out with something thin should get it out no problem. Just be bloody careful not to damage the surrounding plastic trim(not sure if this is here on all cars, if not something else should be in its place that can equally be prised out).
In the gap behind where the pen clip was, you can now access two screws that secure the climate control unit:
Unscrew these, being CAREFUL not to drop the pesky things down into the abyss below the dashboard. The climate control unit will now wiggle down and out. It is just hooked into position at its top edge. Just wiggle and pull downwards and you will see if coming free. Just be gentle!
NOTE: Do not disconnect the climate control unit at all. Just move it out and down enough to allow access to the screws below the stereo. Disconnecting can result in a airbag error, which may result in a visit to a Volvo dealer. I can not be sure of this warning, but I think its safest to just adhere to it. Again, you can now access two screws under the stereo.
Remove these and then remove the stereo in the same way as the climate control unit, wiggle and pull down.

Installing the Box

The installation of the box was very straightforward. It simply plugged into the CD changer port on the back of the stereo. The only thing I had to do was supply it with power. The lead that came with the adaptor had a wire flying out of it that needed to be connected to a constant 12v. I used a multi-meter to find out which wire going into the stereo was constant live (i.e. had 12v with ignition off) and just broke into that and used a connector block to safely join in the adaptor's wire:
This is the CD changer connector:
It was then just a case of finding a suitable place to run the wire back to the connector. I opted for locating it in the glovebox, and after a bit of feeling and fiddling found an opening between glove box and the area behind the stereo - perfect. Just refit the stereo in the reverse.

  1. Hi. Please help me.
I have an S60R. Problem with the CD player error and not ejecting. Fixed it once. It is now the same. I replaced it with a Pioneer Dvd. It worked. But after the battery terminal was put back on, the key refused to instruct the car. I only can drive it, headlights and tail lights. No windows , no cluster, no air con . Volvo dealer cannot reset the car. It is still there. Any advice ?

  2. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic
to be actually something which I think I would never understand.
It seems too complex and very broad for me. I'm looking forward
for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
